Richard Baxter is a well-known British potter producing highly individual and collectable ceramic art. These range from stylishly functional earthenware to beautiful porcelain bowls inspired by waves and strata. Some are practical and durable for day to day living, whilst other works are unique pieces. We are proud to display both types of work here at Riverside Art & Glass.
Richard Baxter has been an active potter since 1981, when he graduated with a First in 3-D Design (Ceramics) from Loughborough College of Art and Design. Richard’s tutors included David Scott, current Head of Ceramics at Loughborough, and Martin Smith, now Professor of Ceramics at the Royal College of Art.
Richard works from his studio in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, where his pots are thrown using Limoges porcelain and are fired to 1240c in an electric kiln. His pots have a flawless finish yet retain the potter’s workmanship and handmade quality. His coloured glazes range from the deepest blues to palest of greens and vibrant acid yellows. His Tiny Bowls encompass all his styles in a collection accessible to anyone and they work perfectly alongside his larger pieces.
